ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the 60th anniversary of the Civil Air Patrol.
Whereas, the Civil Air Patrol was established by Congress on December 1, 1941; and
Whereas, the Civil Air Patrol immediately began to serve America by flying antisubmarine patrols on the Atlantic coast; and
Whereas, the activities of the Civil Air Patrol during World War II greatly reduced enemy submarine activity in American waters and helped save the lives of many survivors of torpedoed ships; and
Whereas, after the war, the Civil Air Patrol became the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force; and
Whereas, today the volunteers of the Civil Air Patrol perform a vital role in search and rescue and disaster relief; and
Whereas, the Civil Air Patrol now has over 53,000 members and over 500 aircraft, which are supplemented by over 4,500 aircraft owned by members; and
Whereas, historically, the Civil Air Patrol has been the single largest source of cadets for our nation's military academies; and
Whereas, with the recent return of national security to the forefront of American affairs, the Civil Air Patrol is once again fulfilling its original role of insuring homeland security, flying numerous missions since September 11 to assess damage and deliver medical supplies; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature salute the Civil Air Patrol for its 60 years of service to America; and, be it further
Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature support the important and ongoing work of this valuable organization.
