2001 Assembly Resolution 47
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: celebrating February 6, 2002, as Ronald Reagan Day in the state of Wisconsin.
Whereas, Ronald Wilson Reagan, born of humble background in the state of Illinois, worked throughout his life serving freedom and others, having been employed as an entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, governor of California, and President of the United States; and
Whereas, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction as the 40th President of the United States of America, having been elected to 2 terms of office, the 2nd of which he was victorious in 49 of the 50 states in the general election, earning the confidence of three-fifths of the electorate, a record unsurpassed in the history of American presidential elections; and
Whereas, during Mr. Reagan's presidency, he worked in a bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to government, which led to an unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans; and
Whereas, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods; and
Whereas, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her values, and those cherished by the free world, enabling our armed forces to carry out their mission in the Gulf War; and
Whereas, President Reagan's vision of "peace through strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing human rights for millions; and
Whereas, on February 6, 2002, Ronald Reagan will reach the seasoned age of 91 years, thus becoming the oldest, and one of the longest serving, former U.S. Presidents in the history of our nation; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly congratulate President Ronald Reagan on his 91st birthday, and express their best wishes and deepest gratitude for his life of public service; and, be it further
Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly hereby recognize February 2, 2002, as "Ronald Reagan Day"; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this resolution to President Reagan.
