2001 Senate Joint Resolution 10
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Richard J. Zaborski.
Whereas, Richard J. Zaborski was born on January 7, 1927, and died January 9, 2001; and
Whereas, Richard J. Zaborski showed an early flair for leadership at St. Mary of Czestochowa grade school and Messmer High School in Milwaukee, being elected president of various organizations and societies; and
Whereas, he demonstrated further leadership in volunteering for service in the United States Army on his 18th birthday, where he was commissioned as a lieutenant; and
Whereas, in 1950, he again answered his country's call, serving as a combat infantry officer in Korea, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for valor; and
Whereas, after the war, he attended Marquette University, receiving his B.S. degree in 1953; and
Whereas, he soon became active in Democratic politics in Milwaukee, being elected to the Wisconsin senate in 1954 to represent the 11th district for the first of 3 terms; and
Whereas, he quickly showed a flair for strong advocacy from the floor of the senate, supporting the causes he championed with wit and zeal; and
Whereas, he was a pioneer as a full-time legislator; and
Whereas, he was elected Democratic leader in the senate in 1963 and 1965; and
Whereas, he returned to private life in 1967 and worked for many years for Pabst Brewing Company; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature recognizes the important and selfless contributions of Richard J. Zaborski to his country and the Wisconsin legislature, and mourns his passing; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to his wife Mary Ann of Brookfield and his daughter Robin Mosey of Brookfield.
