ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming the month of May as "Community Action Month" in the state of Wisconsin.
Whereas, there are 16 community action agencies in Wisconsin working and collaborating with local communities to alleviate the circumstances of poverty and helping people achieve self-sufficiency; and
Whereas, the community action agencies have, for 35 years, developed innovative pilot and major programming in the areas of affordable housing and homeownership, weatherization and rehabilitation of homes, employment and microenterprise business development, Head Start, food and nutrition, community-based economic development, transportation, health, and education, and many other such helping programs; and
Whereas, community action agencies include low-income people in their policy development in full partnership with government and the private sector; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin Community Action Program Association and its member agencies and volunteers celebrate their achievements and acknowledge the contributions of others during the month of May; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin legislature has established statutorily a definition of community action agencies and their mission; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature salute its community action agencies and the Wisconsin Community Action Program Association for their dedicated and effective service to the residents of Wisconsin and do hereby proclaim the month of May "Community Action Month" in the state of Wisconsin.
