2003 Assembly Joint Resolution 36
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of Major Mathew E. Schram.
Whereas, Major Mathew E. Schram was born in Brookfield, Wisconsin, 36 years ago, and died on Memorial Day, 2003, while bravely serving his country as an officer in the United States Army's 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment; and
Whereas, Major Schram was industrious and principled and held the highest expectations for himself; and
Whereas, Major Schram graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in West Allis in 1981; and
Whereas, Major Schram graduated from Brookfield Central High School in 1985, where he played football and tennis; and
Whereas, Major Schram graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1990 with a degree in political science, and where he was also a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps; and
Whereas, Major Schram received his master's degree in organizational management in 2002 while stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and
Whereas, Major Schram joined the United States Army in 1989, where he quickly rose through the ranks; and
Whereas, Major Schram served in Kuwait during the Gulf War of 1991; and
Whereas, Major Schram served 2 tours in Croatia, in 1996 and 1999; and
Whereas, Major Schram served in Somalia in the late 1990s; and
Whereas, Major Schram served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, helping liberate the people of Iraq from an oppressive dictator; and
Whereas, Major Schram was a dedicated soldier who was proud to serve his country; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted service that Major Mathew E. Schram contributed to his country, his state, and his community; express their sorrow at his death; and extend their condolences to his friends and family, including his 8 nieces and nephews who held a tender place in his heart; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Major Schram's father, Earl, and stepmother Audrey, of Sister Bay; his brothers, David of Hales Corners, Phil of Hartland, and Bob of Milwaukee; and his sisters Carol Barr of Pewaukee and Sue Kuske of Brookfield.
