2003 Senate Joint Resolution 5
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Edward W. Reuther.
Whereas, Edward W. Reuther was born on March 15, 1915, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and died on April 30, 2002; and
Whereas, he graduated from Messmer High School; and
Whereas, Mr. Reuther was elected to the Wisconsin senate in 1944, serving in the 1945 and 1947 sessions; and
Whereas, Mr. Reuther served on the senate Committee on Education and Public Welfare; and
Whereas, during his tenure in the senate, Mr. Reuther introduced legislation to regulate cigarette sales to minors, license food handlers, and legalize bingo; and
Whereas, Mr. Reuther subsequently worked for the Milwaukee Braves, where he was in charge of ticket sales; and
Whereas, when he learned that the Milwaukee Braves were leaving the city, Mr. Reuther applied to the City of Milwaukee treasurer's office and worked there for 18 years, retiring in 1981; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Edward W. Reuther contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Reuther's wife, Madeline, to his daughter, Mary Beth Tennessen of Port Washington, and to his sister, Victoria Giese of Palmyra.
