2003 Senate Resolution 29
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: commemorating the Wisconsin Lao Veterans of America and acknowledging the organization in performing its own proper burial of a Lao veteran.
Whereas, the Central Intelligence Agency and the United States Armed Forces recruited, organized, trained, and assisted Hmong guerrilla, united, and conventional forces from 1960 to 1975 to combat the North Vietnamese Army and Communist Pathet Lao forces; and
Whereas, the United States is now home to a significant community of the Hmong veterans and their families after providing them political asylum, refugee status, and citizenship because of their unique contribution to the United States national security interests during the Vietnam War; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin Lao Veterans of America has established chapters throughout the state and those chapters have sought to serve the communities in which they are located and educate the public about the historic contribution of the Hmong veterans during the Vietnam War; and
Whereas, due to the death of a member of Wisconsin Lao Veterans of America, the organization will be performing its own proper burial that includes the casket team, escorting team, rifle team, color guard team, band, and bugler; and
Whereas, the organization will present the United States Flag and the organization's honorary certificate to the next of kin and will perform a gun salute using the Colt AR-15; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin senate commend the efforts of all Hmong veterans; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to the Wisconsin Lao Veterans of America.
