2005 Assembly Joint Resolution 109
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and service of Staff Sergeant Patrick Lybert of the United States Army, who lost his life during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Whereas, on June 21, 2006, Staff Sergeant Patrick Lybert, of Ladysmith, Wisconsin, an infantryman and member of the 1st Platoon, C Troop, 71st Cavalry Squadron, 10th Mountain Division, United States Army, died as a result of wounds received during combat in Afghanistan; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert graduated in 1996 from Ladysmith High School and also graduated from Western Technical College in La Crosse with a degree in criminal justice before enlisting in the Army; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert excelled in athletics, especially wrestling, and was awarded the Outstanding Senior Boy Athlete Award from the Ladysmith Jaycees; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert enjoyed scouting and earned an Eagle Scout award for rehabilitating Riverside Park's trails and building wooden benches for people to rest on; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert entered the United States Army on August 1, 2002, arrived at Fort Drum, New York, on August 5, 2003, and deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in February 2006; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert's military education included the Warrior Leaders course, the Combat Life Saver Course, and the Combatives Level 1 Course; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Parachutist Badge; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert provided faithful and honorable service to the people of the state of Wisconsin and the American people; and
Whereas, the people of Wisconsin mourn the death of Staff Sergeant Patrick Lybert; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Patrick Lybert was laid to rest on Monday, July 3, 2006; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Staff Sergeant Patrick Lybert and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to Staff Sergeant Lybert's mother and stepfather, Cheryl and Terry Nussberger, his father and stepmother, David and Janet Lybert, his fiancé, Carola Hubbard, his brothers, Stacy Lybert and Noah Nussberger, his grandparents, Robert and Helen Patrick, Frances Kettering, and his stepgrandfather, George Kettering.
