ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: life and public service of Bernard C. Ziegler.
Whereas, Bernard C. Ziegler was born in Milwaukee on January 2, 1922, and died in West Bend on May 2, 2005, at the age of 83; and
Whereas, Bernard C. Ziegler attended West Bend High School followed by Dartmouth College and then Northwestern University, before joining the United States Navy during World War II; and
Whereas, Bernard C. Ziegler earned the rank of first lieutenant in the United States Navy while serving in the South Pacific and returned in 1946 to West Bend to help run the family business; and
Whereas, he became chairman of B.C. Ziegler & Co. in 1972 and remained in that position until his retirement in 1992; and
Whereas, he was a longtime member of the University of Wisconsin Regents, the district chairman of the Republican Party, a member of the Green Bay Packers Board of Directors, and the chairman of the Ziegler Foundation, which is part of the West Bend Community Foundation; and
Whereas, he was committed to donating to and supporting more than 100 charities, including extensive help in developing the Kettle Moraine YMCA; and
Whereas, Bernard C. Ziegler was a man of great charisma and leadership throughout the West Bend community for the duration of his life; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature commends the life and public service of Bernard C. Ziegler, expresses sorrow at his death, and extends its condolences to his family and friends.
