2005 Assembly Joint Resolution 50
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming October Wisconsin Kids Voting USA month.
Whereas, Kids Voting USA is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that teaches students about democracy and the importance of individual political participation by educating and actively engaging students and their families in voting; and
Whereas, Kids Voting USA reaches 4.3 million students in 10,600 schools across 29 states, including the Wisconsin communities of Wausau, Green Bay, New London, Superior, Sturgeon Bay areas, and parts of Milwaukee; and
Whereas, students have their own voting booth, adjacent to adult locations, and their own ballots where the media reports their results separately; and
Whereas, Kids Voting USA transcends all boundaries — geographic, ethnic, cultural, and demographic — to encourage everyone to participate; and
Whereas, research has confirmed the positive impact of the Kids Voting USA program on voting patterns and civic participation in that more 18-year olds properly register and participate in the next election; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature proclaim October "Wisconsin Kids Voting Month" in conjunction and recognition of National Kids Voting Month and encourage the participation of every community and media outlet to educate and engage people in this unique process to help ensure our future and democratic way of life.
