2005 Assembly Joint Resolution 81
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of Army Specialist Bert Edward Hoyer.
Whereas, Specialist Hoyer was born October 28, 1980, in Red Wing, Minnesota, to parents Larry and Peggy Hoyer, and died March 10, 2004, in the service of his country, in Ba'Quba, Iraq, when his convoy was attacked by an explosive device; and
Whereas, Specialist Hoyer served with distinction, honor, and the respect of his fellow soldiers as a member of the 652nd Engineer Company, U.S. Army Reserve, based in his hometown of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Specialist Hoyer received several commendations for his exemplary service to his country, including the Army Service Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart, in addition to being promoted to the rank of Specialist; and
Whereas, Specialist Hoyer kept in contact with 6th-grade students at Ellsworth Middle School during his service in Iraq, giving them a unique insight into Operation Iraqi Freedom and the life of a soldier on active duty; and
Whereas, Specialist Hoyer was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Beldenville, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Specialist Hoyer graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1999 and entered the U.S. Army Reserve upon enrolling at Vermillion Community College in Ely, Minnesota, where he studied wildlife management; and
Whereas, Specialist Hoyer made the ultimate sacrifice for his country to protect our freedom and way of life, while advancing the blessing of freedom and democracy to the Iraqi people; and
Whereas, Specialist Hoyer will always be remembered for his bravery, courage, and as a "creative, inspirational leader," who served his country with pride and whose sacrifice shall never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature honor Specialist Bert Edward Hoyer for his dedication to and sacrifice for our country and express their heartfelt sorrow over the loss of his life and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Specialist Hoyer's parents, Larry and Peggy Hoyer; brother Darryl Hoyer; sister Annie Hoyer; maternal grandmother, Florence Kline; paternal grandparents, John and Donna Hoyer; and his paternal great-grandmother, Edith Johnson.
