ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life of U.S. Army Specialist John Oliver Tollefson.
Whereas, U.S. Army Specialist John Oliver Tollefson was born September 27, 1982, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and died on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, in Ashraf, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee during patrol; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson served with honor and distinction for the U.S. Army with the 411th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, stationed near Baghdad, Iraq; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, in 2001; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson earned his associates degree from the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac, before enlisting with the military; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson had a passion for hockey, football, music, cars, family, and friends; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson was a member of Holy Family Parish and had a love for the Lord and was a loving son, brother, friend, uncle, and soldier; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson had a natural ability to connect with people and he had a beautiful smile that could light up a room; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson made the ultimate sacrifice for his country while fighting for freedom for the citizens of Iraq; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson was honored with the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart; and
Whereas, Spc. Tollefson will always be remembered for his commitment to the U.S. Army and for the cause of freedom, for his love and devotion to his family and friends, and he will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life of U.S. Army Specialist John Oliver Tollefson of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Spc. Tollefson's father, Walter Tollefson of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and his mother and stepfather, Mary and Dan Steinman of Rosendale, Wisconsin; his sisters, Jessica Tollefson of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and Kate Tollefson of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; and his grandmothers, Alice Tollefson of Mishicot, Wisconsin, and Delores Kochrosky of Maribel, Wisconsin.
