ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Barry Alvarez for his achievements as coach of the University of Wisconsin Badgers football team.
Whereas, Barry Alvarez began coaching the University of Wisconsin Badgers football team in 1990; and
Whereas, Barry Alvarez has won more games (118) on the University of Wisconsin sidelines than any of his predecessors and is just the 10th coach in Big Ten Conference history to win at least 100 games at the same institution; and
Whereas, Barry Alvarez's teams have won at least a share of 3 Big Ten Conference (1993, 1998, 1999) and Rose Bowl Championships; and
Whereas, Barry Alvarez is the only coach in the history of the Big Ten Conference to win back-to-back Rose Bowl Championships; and
Whereas, Barry Alvarez has registered a 8-3 (.727) bowl record, the highest winning percentage in college football history for coaches with at least 11 bowl appearances; and
Whereas, Barry Alvarez is a 2-time national and 2-time Big Ten Coach of the Year, and was a finalist for ESPN's Coach of the Decade (1990's); and
Whereas, Barry Alvarez has coached 5 winners of national awards, including the Heisman Trophy award, 34 All-Americans, 54 National Football League draft choices, and more than 100 Academic All-Big Ten selections; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature do congratulate and thank Barry Alavrez for his 16 years of hard work and great achievements as coach of the University of Wisconsin Badgers football team.
