2005 Senate Joint Resolution 62
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of Specialist Michael J. Wendling.
Whereas, Specialist Michael J. Wendling was born on January 3, 1985, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and died Monday, September 26, 2005, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during convoy operations near Basra, Iraq; and
Whereas, Specialist Wendling served with distinction as a member of the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Brigade, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Specialist Wendling graduated from Mayville High School in 2003 where he was active in football, basketball, baseball, and golf; and
Whereas, Specialist Wendling was a student on the dean's list at UW-Milwaukee when he was called up to active duty in May of 2005; and
Whereas, Specialist Wendling renewed his baptismal vows at his Confirmation in 1999 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Theresa; and
Whereas, Specialist Wendling will be remembered as a bundle of energy with a great sense of humor; and
Whereas, Specialist Wendling made his family, his friends, and his country extremely proud of his courage and bravery as he made the ultimate sacrifice in service of his nation in fighting for the cause of freedom; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature honor Specialist Michael J. Wendling for his dedication to his country and express their heartfelt sorrow and deepest sympathies to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Specialist Wendling's parents, Randall and Carrie Wendling, sisters, Jennifer Augustine and Angela Wendling, his brother Mark Wendling, his paternal grandmother Esther Wendling, his maternal grandparents Vernon and Patricia Neuman, and his friend Aleana Strook.
