2005 Senate Joint Resolution 81
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of Lance Corporal Adam J. VanAlstine of the United States Marines who lost his life during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Whereas, on February 25, 2006, Lance Corporal Adam J. VanAlstine of Superior, Wisconsin, a member of the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force which was attached to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, died as a result of wounds received from an improvised explosive device in Ar Ramadi, Iraq; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal VanAlstine was 21 years old, born on November 2, 1984, and will be remembered as a dedicated soldier who had wanted to join the marines since he was a little boy and was living out his dream of serving our country; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal VanAlstine will be remembered as a caring and devoted brother to his siblings, a loving uncle to his siblings' children, and a passionate soldier defending our nation for generations yet to come; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal VanAlstine fervently loved to box and is remembered fondly by his boxing instructors and classmates who knew him as an enthusiastic boxer since the age of 13 when he first started competing in the 106-pound weight class; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal VanAlstine faced challenges throughout his life which he was able to overcome through hard work, discipline, and a strong will and demonstrated incredible depth of character through his perseverance to make a better life for himself and a better world for fellow Americans; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal Adam VanAlstine was laid to rest on March 6, 2006; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commemorates the life of Lance Corporal Adam J. VanAlstine and extends its sympathies and its deepest gratitude to his family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to Lance Corporal VanAlstine's sisters, Julie Goodell, Jennifer VanAlstine, and Dawn Meyers, and to his brother, Michael Garrity.
