Senate Joint Resolution 1
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Hugo H. Henry.
Whereas, Hugo Harrison Henry, husband of Mary Henry, and father of Kevin, Duane, Kimberly, Marc, Marcena, Eric, and Tiffany, passed away at the age of 60 on Monday, March 17, 2008; and
Whereas, Mr. Henry was a respected and beloved member of the Beloit community in his capacities as teacher, city council member, mentor, role model, speaker, and singer; and
Whereas, Mr. Henry taught social studies and history for 34 years at Beloit Memorial High School and then at McNeel Middle School, and was named Teacher of the Year at each school; and
Whereas, he dedicated all of his life to teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and encouraging children to reach their full potential through such avenues as the Merrill Community Center, the Black Male Role Model Group, and the Beloit College precollegiate programs; and
Whereas, he served his community as a member and president of the Beloit City Council; member and president of the Stateline Golden K Kiwanis Club; and as a member of the Welty Environmental Center; the W-2 Steering Committee; the Beloit Branch of the NAACP; the Greater Beloit Minority Coalition; the Merrill Revitalization Group; and the African American Infant Mortality Coalition; and
Whereas, he served his state as a member of the Department of Public Instruction State High School Task Force, the state Affirmative Action Council; and the Wisconsin General Education Association of Student Programs; and
Whereas, his rich baritone graced the choir of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and many community events; and
Whereas, he shared his gift of eloquence as announcer at Beloit Memorial High School basketball games and at many community forums; and
Whereas, he held an unwavering commitment to bring people together, to lift them up, to encourage them to be their best, and to make life better for everyone; and
Whereas, Mr. Henry will continue to serve as a role model and source of inspiration long after his death; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commemorate the life and accomplishments of Hugo Henry, express their sorrow at his passing, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Henry's wife, Mary, and to his seven children.
