2007 Assembly Joint Resolution 88
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Richard J. Steffens.
Whereas, Richard J. Steffens was born on August 23, 1921, in Neenah, Wisconsin, and died on January 2, 2008, in Menasha, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Richard Steffens attended parochial grade school, Menasha High School, Oshkosh State Teachers College, and the University of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Richard Steffens served in the United States Army during World War II where he was awarded the Croix de Guerre, the highest French military decoration of honor, and the American Bronze Star for bravery; and
Whereas, Richard Steffens was a successful and accomplished attorney and served as the city of Menasha attorney for 32 years; and
Whereas, Richard Steffens served in the Wisconsin state assembly for two terms from 1947-1950, representing Winnebago County, second district, where he authored Wisconsin's first antipollution law; and
Whereas, Richards Steffens was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Menasha Germania Society, the Eagles, and Izaak Walton League, and was president of the Winnebago County Bar Association; and
Whereas, Richard Steffens was a beloved and revered husband, father, brother, and friend, as well as a committed and devoted community leader in our Fox Cities community throughout his entire life; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend and thank Richard J. Steffens for his devoted public service and commitment to his community and state, and express our sincere condolences to his family and friends upon his death; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Richard Steffen's wife, Rose, and son, Richard, Jr.
