2007 Senate Joint Resolution 12
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Joe Thomas for his athletic achievements.
Whereas, Joe Thomas was born on December 4, 1984 in Brookfield, Wisconsin, and attended Brookfield Central High School, where he was a four-year honor roll student and a four-year letter winner in football, basketball, and track and field; and
Whereas, Joe Thomas was recruited to play football by many national powerhouses, but chose to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he would appear in 47 games including 38 games as a starter and was the first true freshman offensive lineman to see game action during the Barry Alvarez coaching era; and
Whereas, Joe Thomas, returned to play in his senior season as a team captain, was selected to the 2006 preseason watch lists for both the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award, and would go on to start all 13 games for the 2006 Wisconsin Badgers; and
Whereas, Joe Thomas in his final year in a Badger uniform was a consensus All-American, was a semifinalist for the Lombardi award for the second consecutive year, was awarded the Jim Parker Trophy, and was the first Badger ever to be honored with the Outland Trophy for superb work as an interior lineman; and
Whereas, Joe Thomas played his last game as a Badger helping lead his team to a 17-14 win in their second consecutive Capital One Bowl victory; and
Whereas, most consider the four-time letter winner and three-time ESPN The Magazine All-District 5, and Academic All-Big Ten selection Joe Thomas to be one of the top five overall selections in the 2007 National Football League Draft; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That: the members of the Wisconsin legislature salute the achievements of Joe Thomas both on and off the field.
