2007 Senate Joint Resolution 13
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of United States Marine Corps Corporal Joshua M. Schmitz.
Whereas, Joshua Schmitz was born January 16, 1985, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, and died December 26th, 2006, of injuries sustained while selflessly assisting an Iraqi ally under heavy enemy fire in the Al Anbar province of Iraq; and
Whereas, Joshua Schmitz was a 2003 graduate of Loyal High School in Loyal, Wisconsin, where he was an all-conference football player, model student, and generous volunteer; and
Whereas, Joshua Schmitz enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in September 2003; and
Whereas, Joshua Schmitz served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he was a corporal, and was in his second tour of duty in Iraq; and
Whereas, Joshua Schmitz embraced the United States Marine Corps core values of honor, courage, and commitment — attributes he embodied throughout his time in the Marine Corps until the day he gave his life in service to his nation; and
Whereas, Joshua Schmitz's family and all who knew him recognized his strength, positive nature, and willingness to serve others and will miss him greatly; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Joshua M. Schmitz and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to Joshua Schmitz's parents, Mark and Kelly Schmitz, and to his siblings, Angela Colby, Stephanie Schmitz, Justin Schmitz, Brandon Schmitz, and Nick Schmitz, and his grandparents, Ken and Bonnie Gilles and Marlin and Virginia Schmitz.
