2007 Senate Joint Resolution 63
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and service of Staff Sergeant Robert J. Basham of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, who lost his life during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Robert J. Basham of the Wisconsin Army National Guard was born on May 4, 1984, and died of injuries sustained at Camp As Sayliyah in Doha, Qatar, on April 14, 2007; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Basham was a member of Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 126th Field Artillery of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, and was mobilized in 2005 for a year of overseas service in Kuwait with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 128th Infantry. When his unit returned home, Basham volunteered for another tour of duty, joining a Kansas National Guard unit whose mission was in Iraq; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Basham had a passion for military service since early childhood and it was this passion that drew him to the Wisconsin Army National Guard, where he provided faithful and honorable service to the people of the state of Wisconsin and the people of the United States; and
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Basham, son of Mitchell and Nora Basham of Kenosha, and brother to Brian, Christopher, and Jennifer Basham, was a 2002 graduate of the Kenosha Military Academy in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he was a Cadet Battalion Commander, and served on the Color Guard, Rifle Team, and Raider's Team; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Staff Sergeant Robert J. Basham, mourns his death, and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to his parents, Mitchell and Nora Basham.
