2009 Assembly Joint Resolution 105
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Amy S. Krueger.
Whereas, Amy S. Krueger, born August 7, 1980, daughter of Jerilyn Krueger and David Diem, died on November 5, 2009, of injuries sustained during the terrorist attack at Fort Hood military post in Texas while preparing to deploy to Afghanistan; and
Whereas, Amy graduated from Kiel High School in Kiel, Wisconsin, in 1998, after which she pursued further schooling at the University of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Amy enlisted in the United States Army after the events of September 11, 2001, completed her basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was then stationed in San Antonio, Texas, where Amy was trained as a mental health specialist; and
Whereas, in 2003, Amy was deployed to Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and returned to the United States the summer of 2003; and
Whereas, upon her return home, Amy completed her Associate Degree in Arts and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan, and also graduated from the Emergency Medical Technicians Program and the Certified Nursing Assistant Program at Lakeshore Technical College in 2008; and
Whereas, while pursuing her bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2008, Amy volunteered for service in Afghanistan and trained for deployment at Fort Hunter Ligget in California and in Topeka, Kansas, and then traveled on an overnight bus ride to Fort Hood, Texas, arriving on November 4, 2009; and
Whereas, Amy “Kruegs" Krueger was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Kiel, Wisconsin, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, shooting pool, playing sheepshead, and being involved in softball and volleyball teams; and
Whereas, Amy felt a deep affection for her country and the ideals it holds dear, and she served the United States and its citizens with determination and respect, and was a profound example of duty, selflessness, and honor; and
Whereas, Amy will be sorely missed by all of those who knew her and by those whose lives she impacted; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Staff Sergeant Amy S. Krueger and extends its deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to her mother, Jerilyn Krueger; her biological father, David Diem; her adoptive father, Mark Krueger; her siblings, Jessica Krueger and Casey Krueger; her step-siblings, Heather Turba, Ryan Turba, and Michelle and Nathaniel May; her grandparents, Ray and Carolyn Diem; her aunts and uncles Bill and Sue Rief, Mike and Sue Wusterbarth, Steve and Leslie Diem, Jim Diem, Dan and Brenda Krueger, Debbie and Eugene Kutz-Falle, Sara Krueger, and Tim Amundson; her special friends, Jill Reifsnider, Michelle and Joe Barrette, Kristin Thayer, Chad and Denise Morley, Justin and Kristin Groh, Sherry and Jim Borden, Melissa Landwher, Matt Werdeo, and Stacey and Jeremy Klotz; Casualty Assistance Officer, SFC Jennifer Schmidt; Public Affairs Officer, MAJ Scott Lieburn; Military Honors Coordinator, MAJ Dale Vorpel, Jr.; Patriot Guard, Michael Weaver; and 467th MED DET, CPT Robert LaFountain.
