ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Edwin C. Stephan.
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to Walter and Marie Stephan on January 20, 1922, and died on June 10, 2009; and
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan married Joanna Schmelzle in 1942 and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; and
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and then earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School; and
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan returned to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to practice law; and
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan served as district attorney for several years and was then elected judge of Door County; and
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan was judge for the state circuit court for twenty years and reserve judge for ten years, retiring at the age of 76; and
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and the Wisconsin State Bar Association; and
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan belonged to the St. Joseph Parish in Sturgeon Bay and served as lector and communion distributor; and
Whereas, Edwin C. Stephan was a true example of leadership, devotion, and commitment to his community and in making the world a better place; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the
assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature commends the life and public service of Edwin C. Stephan, expresses sorrow at his death, and extends its condolences to his family and friends.
