2009 Assembly Joint Resolution 70
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming September 18, 19, and 20, 2009, as Gemuetlichkeit Days.
Whereas, the state of Wisconsin has long been the home for countless German immigrants, who have become the foundation of this state's great heritage; and
Whereas, the state of Wisconsin has one of the largest representations of German ancestry in the United Sates; and
Whereas, German-Americans have helped establish some of Wisconsin's most treasured pastimes such as polka, euchre, brats, and beer; and
Whereas, many of the state of Wisconsin's fine cities and towns are named in recognition of this heritage; and
Whereas, the state of Wisconsin continues to be a beacon of German culture for many generations of German immigrants; and
Whereas, Gemuetlichkeit Days celebrates all of the great German qualities that have become so important to our state's culture; and
Whereas, the celebration of Gemuetlichkeit Days will focus on German food, music, and dancing, and will even include a parade, all of which allow for a fun way to reconnect with our state's German heritage; and
Whereas, the city of Jefferson has been the home of Gemuetlichkeit Days since 1971, for all of Wisconsin to come and enjoy while proclaiming that “Everyone is German during Gemuetlichkeit Days"; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature proclaim the days of September 18, 19, and 20, 2009, as Gemuetlichkeit Days so that this great state may honor the German heritage that has been an integral part of Wisconsin for so long.
