ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of John D. “Jack" Steinhilber.
Whereas, John D. “Jack" Steinhilber was born on September 14, 1931, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and died on May 14, 2009, in Oshkosh; and
Whereas, Jack earned a law degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Law in 1955, and following his admission to the State Bar, Jack began practicing law in Oshkosh; and
Whereas, Jack was elected to the position of district attorney for Winnebago County and served from 1957 to 1964; and
Whereas, Jack represented his Fox Valley area constituents in Madison as a state legislator, having been elected first to the state assembly, in 1966, and later to the state senate, in 1970, where he rose to the position of assistant majority leader; and
Whereas, Jack loved politics and was a proud member of the Republican Party, and served as the chairman of Wisconsin Citizens for Reagan in 1976; and
Whereas, Jack served his community in multiple capacities, as a founding director of the West Side Association and as a member of the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, Oshkosh Downtown Rotary, and St. John's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh; and
Whereas, Jack received recognition for his service to the Fox Valley area with the Distinguished Alumni Award from Oshkosh West High School in 2001; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature do commend the devoted public service that John D. “Jack" Steinhilber contributed to his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Jack's widow, Gail, and three children, Jack Jr. “J.D.," Jennifer Manzler, and Leslie Falls.
