2009 Senate Joint Resolution 48
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of Lance Corporal Dean Opicka.
Whereas, on April 14, 2008, Lance Corporal Dean Opicka, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, a member of the Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, died while serving his country in al-Anbar province, Iraq; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal Opicka provided faithful and honorable service to the people of the state of Wisconsin and the people of the United States of America; and
Whereas, the people of Wisconsin mourn the death of Lance Corporal Opicka, a native of Casco, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal Opicka was a 1997 graduate of Luxemburg-Casco High School and graduated from Carroll College with a double major in psychology and history in May of 2002, returned in 2003 and completed a teaching certification in the spring of 2005; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal Opicka was currently teaching at the Wisconsin Career Academy in Milwaukee and at the Association for the Rights of Citizens with handicaps; and
Whereas, Lance Corporal Opicka is survived by his parents, David and Donna Opicka of Casco; his fiancée Katy Bonkoski of Brookfield; his brothers, Daniel Opicka and his wife Melissa of Luxemburg, Douglas Opicka of Kentucky, and Corporal Darren Opicka of Camp Pendleton California; his godchild and niece Kayla, and nephew, Derek Opicka; grandmothers Magdalene Opicka and Leona Kinjerski; aunts and uncles, Dennis and Diane Opicka, Duane and Sharon Opicka, Dolores Gano and her husband Aaron Krueger, Margaret and David Zellner, Frank and Laurie Kinjerski, and Annie and Norb Zelewske; along with many cousins and friends; and
Whereas Lance Corporal Opicka was laid to rest on Thursday, April 24, 2008, at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Slovan, Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Lance Corporal Dean Opicka and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and
Be it further resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to his parents, David and Donna Opicka of Casco; his fiancée Katy Bonkoski of Brookfield; his brothers, Daniel Opicka and his wife Melissa of Luxemburg, Douglas Opicka of Kentucky, and Corporal Darren Opicka of Camp Pendleton California; his godchild and niece Kayla, and nephew, Derek Opicka; grandmothers Magdalene Opicka and Leona Kinjerski; aunts and uncles, Dennis and Diane Opicka, Duane and Sharon Opicka, Dolores Gano and her husband Aaron Krueger, Margaret and David Zellner, Frank and Laurie Kinjerski, and Annie and Norb Zelewske.
