2013 Senate Joint Resolution 25
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Joseph LaPorte.
Whereas, Mr. Joseph Charles LaPorte passed away on February 17, 2013, at the age of 91; and
Whereas, Mr. LaPorte's parents were Sicilian immigrants who came to Milwaukee in 1904; and
Whereas, Mr. LaPorte served our country as a technical sergeant in World War II, earning three battle stars for his exceptional service; and
Whereas, after serving in World War II, Mr. LaPorte lived in Waukesha for the rest of his life; and
Whereas, Mr. LaPorte served as a city of Waukesha alderman for five total terms, as mayor of the city of Waukesha for one term, and as Waukesha County Supervisor for one term; and
Whereas, Mr. LaPorte and his wife Marion founded and operated their popular restaurant and tavern, LaPorte's Tap, which brought together customers from all over the area; and
Whereas, Mr. LaPorte worked diligently to bring the Regional State Office Building to downtown Waukesha, inspiring residents to contribute to the cause and realize that change is possible with persistence and passion; and
Whereas, Mr. LaPorte was an active member of several community organizations including St. Joseph's Church, the American Legion, and the Waukesha Memorial Hospital Board; and
Whereas, Mr. LaPorte had a deep appreciation for his family and made them just as much a priority as the needs of the Waukesha community that he sincerely loved; and
Whereas, the residents of Waukesha will always remember Mr. LaPorte and his dedicated service to Waukesha; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature and the people of Wisconsin honor the memory of Joseph LaPorte for his life and service to the people and to Waukesha.
