2015 Senate Joint Resolution 51
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming the second week in September each year as Towing Industry Awareness Week.
Whereas, there are hundreds of thousands of people across the United States employed in the American towing industry, including tow truck drivers, dispatchers, safety advisors, owners, etc.; and
Whereas, more than one tow truck operator is killed every week assisting motorists on the road, which is higher than law enforcement officer and fire fighter deaths from accidents on the side of the road combined; and
Whereas, tow truck operators nationwide respond to nearly 15 million accidents per year with almost 9 million going unreported, which calculates to 3 injury accidents every minute; and
Whereas, in Wisconsin, there were over 115,000 crashes in 2013, most of which required assistance from tow truck operators; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin legislature encourages all motorists to be vigilant of accidents on Wisconsin roads, slow down, and move over if space is available for the presence of tow truck operators, so they can work in a safe, relaxed environment; and
Whereas, as Wisconsinites, we have a duty to drive carefully and be courteous towards fellow motorists on the roadways as we work together for a common goal of reducing fatal accidents; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature hereby proclaim the second week in September each year as Towing Industry Awareness Week.
