2015 Senate Joint Resolution 83
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: naming February 2016 as Children's Dental Health Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
Whereas, American students miss 51 million hours of school every year to attend to oral health, so it is important to reduce missed instruction time by promoting effective dental health; and
Whereas, since virtually all American adults have tooth decay and nearly a quarter have untreated cavities, dental health is an issue that affects Americans of all ages and demographics; and
Whereas, because safe oral health practices such as tooth brushing, flossing, and use of mouthwash are both effective and easy to teach, awareness plays a huge role in the practice of good oral hygiene; and
Whereas, there are many long term effects of poor oral hygiene, so it is important to promote dental health for young children and students to encourage good habits and a lifetime of disease-free teeth; and
Whereas, since teachers, health care providers, and parents can all influence oral health practices, the American Dental Association has supported making February a month-long, national health observance to encourage beneficial dental health practices; and
Whereas, the legislature has an opportunity to join the national campaign to "defeat Monster Mouth" and bring awareness to the importance of good dental health; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature hereby proclaims February 2016 as Children's Dental Health Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
