2015 Senate Joint Resolution 86
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending and congratulating the University of Wisconsin-Stout for 125 years of preparing students for successful careers and improving the economy in the state of Wisconsin.
Whereas, James Huff Stout, a state senator and successful businessman, established the Stout Manual Training School on Jan. 5, 1891; and
Whereas, the former Stout Manual Training School would change drastically over the years before becoming, in 1971, the University of Wisconsin-Stout; and
Whereas, UW-Stout is the only institution in the UW System named for its founder and still embraces the principle that guided James Huff Stout: to prepare graduates for successful careers and fulfilling lives; and
Whereas, UW-Stout in 2001 became the first university in the country to win the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for its dedication to the principle of continuous quality improvement; and
Whereas, UW-Stout was designated as Wisconsin's Polytechnic University by the UW System Board of Regents in 2007; and
Whereas, UW-Stout has added two dozen new undergraduate majors in the last two decades, many in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields; and
Whereas, UW-Stout has seen tremendous growth in recent years, reaching record enrollment of 9,535 in 2015; and
Whereas, UW-Stout's graduates, year in and year out, have maintained an extraordinary job placement rate of at least 97 percent, even through the worst recession since the Great Depression; and
Whereas, UW-Stout continues to be an innovator in the field of higher education and, through its Discovery Center, always strives for new ways to help grow the economy of the state of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature commends and congratulates the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders of the University of Wisconsin-Stout on the occasion of its 125th anniversary in 2016; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to UW-Stout Chancellor Bob Meyer.
