2015 Senate Resolution 10
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming December 2016 as Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol Month.
Whereas, the Civil Air Patrol was created in 1941 through the dedicated efforts of more than 150,000 volunteers who used their planes and flying skills in defense of our country; and
Whereas, the Civil Air Patrol under the Army Air Corps performed critical wartime missions including logging more than 500,000 flying hours, sinking two enemy submarines and saving hundreds of crash victims during World War II; and
Whereas, in 1948 Congress permanently established the Civil Air Patrol as the auxiliary of the newly formed U.S. Air Force and the Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol was incorporated; and
Whereas, the Civil Air Patrol has three core missions, including educating the community through its aerospace programs in order to increase interest in STEM careers, providing emergency services that protect the public through actions such as search and rescue, and training future leaders through its cadet training programs; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol includes 36 squadrons across the state and is almost 1,000 members strong; and
Whereas, in 2014 the Noncommissioned Officer School (NCO) was established, and in 2015 the Airman Leadership School expanded educational opportunities for future aerospace leaders through training in their core values: integrity, volunteer service, excellence, and respect; and
Whereas, in 2015, the Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol members contributed an equivalent of $2.7 million in volunteer hours, including nine search and rescue missions with 26 finds, and 482 cadet orientation flights with 2,436 hours flown; and
Whereas, a Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol Month for the state of Wisconsin would celebrate the 75th anniversary of the formation of the national Civil Air Patrol, recognize the important role this organization has played in our nation's history and the continuing critical role it and its members play in providing emergency services, aerospace education, and leadership training throughout the state; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin senate, on the motion of Senator Julie Lassa, do hereby proclaim December 2016 as Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol Month.
