2017 Assembly Joint Resolution 101
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming April 2018 as Wisconsin Lions Eyeglass Recycling Month in Wisconsin.
Whereas, the Wisconsin Lions began collecting used eyeglasses in the 1950s; and
Whereas, in 1990, a grant was obtained to create the Wisconsin Eyeglass Recycling Center at the Lions Camp, near Rosholt, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center is one of only 18 in the world and one of 12 in the United States; and
Whereas, the Lions, Lioness, and Leos Clubs in Wisconsin collect and process over 800,000 pairs of glasses a year with more than 450,000 pairs sent to 49 different developing countries; and
Whereas, globally, one in four children cannot see well enough to learn to read without glasses; and
Whereas, by the age of 40, 90 percent of adults experience a decrease in the ability to read, thus needing glasses; and
Whereas, Wisconsin Lions Missions strive to make a difference in the lives of people in need throughout the world; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the
assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature hereby proclaims April 2018 as Wisconsin Lions Eyeglass Recycling Month in Wisconsin.
