2021 Assembly Joint Resolution 128
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: honoring the life and service of Firefighter Stephen M. Smith.
Whereas, on December 20, 2021, Stephen M. Smith, a firefighter and loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away due to complications from COVID-19 contracted in the line of duty; and
Whereas, Stephen was born in Appleton to David P. and Marianne Smith on July 13, 1967; and
Whereas, Stephen served as a firefighter for the Vandenbroek-Kaukauna Fire Department for 28 years; and
Whereas, Stephen also volunteered for Walleyes for Tomorrow and was an usher at Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna; and
Whereas, Stephen took great pride in his ability to help others and had a passion for volunteering; and
Whereas, in his free time, Stephen was an avid hunter and fisherman who won many trophies but valued the stories and friendships made during his outdoor activities the most; and
Whereas, Stephen was the cherished husband of Mary Bloy Smith, father of Brianna, Samantha, Ashley, and Nicole, and treasured friend to many; and
Whereas, Stephen's family described him as “a family man with all the love in the world to give”; and
Whereas, the people of Wisconsin are grateful for Stephen's service and sacrifice; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature join in honoring the remarkable life and service of Firefighter Stephen M. Smith and extend their deepest sympathies to Stephen's family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to Stephen's family.
