2023 Senate Joint Resolution 87
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming November 13 to 19, 2023, as Wisconsin Apprenticeship Week.
Whereas, each November the nation and Wisconsin celebrate Apprenticeship Week to raise awareness of this career pathway for individuals to start a career in this state; and
Whereas, Wisconsin has a rich tradition of promoting apprenticeship training as the first state to create a registered apprenticeship law, which is seen as a national model for other states, and as one of the first in the nation to create a youth apprenticeship program to help students gain experience while still in school; and
Whereas, Wisconsin continues to set records for the number of registered apprentices, which hit a record high in 2022 with nearly 16,000, and the same is true for the youth apprenticeship program with over 8,300 students participating with 5,700 employers; and
Whereas, apprenticeship in Wisconsin has expanded to nearly all industries, including agriculture, finance, transportation, health care, and construction and is used by all employers to provide training to employees so they can have a long-term career in our state while also earning a nationally recognized credential; and
Whereas, the apprenticeship model continues to help Wisconsin address the workforce shortage by helping employers train and hire the workers they need to keep Wisconsin's economic engine moving forward; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin State Legislature hereby recognizes the week of November 13 to 19, 2023, as Wisconsin Apprenticeship Week.
