AB203,1,2 1An Act to amend 118.02 of the statutes; relating to: special observance days
2in school.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law specifies certain days as special observance days in public schools.
These include Susan B. Anthony's Birthday, Casimir Pulaski Day, American Creed
Day, U.S. Constitution Day, Columbus' Birthday and Veteran's Day.
This bill eliminates the requirement that such days be observed.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB203, s. 1 3Section 1. 118.02 of the statutes is amended to read:
AB203,2,6 4118.02 (title) Special observance days. On the following days when school
5is held the day shall may be appropriately observed: January 15, Dr. Martin Luther
6King, Jr. Day; February 12; February 15, Susan B. Anthony's birthday; February 22;
7March 4, Casimir Pulaski Day; April 13, American Creed Day; April 22,
8Environmental Awareness Day; September 16, Mildred Fish Harnack Day;
9September 17, U.S. Constitution Day; September 28, Frances Willard Day; October
109, Leif Erikson Day; October 12; November 11; and Wednesday of the 3rd week in
11September, as part of Wonderful Wisconsin Week under s. 14.16 (8), Wisconsin Day.

1If any such day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the observance shall be on a school day
2immediately preceding or following. If school is held on June 14, that day shall may
3be appropriately observed as Robert M. La Follette, Sr. Day. If the governor by
4proclamation sets apart one day to be designated as Arbor and Bird Day, under s.
514.16 (1), that day shall may be appropriately observed; otherwise, the last Friday
6in April shall may be observed as Arbor Day.
