AB220,1,3 1An Act to amend 45.25 (3) (a) and 45.25 (3) (b) 4. of the statutes; relating to:
2amount of tuition and fees reimbursed under the veterans tuition and fee
3reimbursement program.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a veteran who meets the requirements for the tuition and
fee reimbursement program may be reimbursed for up to 25% of the individual's
tuition and fees charged by the institution or center within the University of
Wisconsin (UW) System or technical college that the veteran attends. This bill
allows the veteran to be reimbursed for up to 25% of the average tuition and fees
charged by the technical colleges and UW institutions and centers.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB220, s. 1 4Section 1. 45.25 (3) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB220,2,75 45.25 (3) (a) An individual who meets the requirements under sub. (2), upon
6satisfactory completion of an undergraduate semester in any institution or center
7within the university University of Wisconsin system System or a semester at any
8technical college district school under ch. 38, may be reimbursed for up to 25% of the
9individual's average tuition and fees, other than textbooks and other costs, charged

1by the institution, center or school
charged a resident of this state at each technical
2college and at each institution and center within the University of Wisconsin System
,
3or the difference between the individual's tuition and fees and the grants or
4scholarships, including those made under s. 21.49, that the individual receives
5specifically for the payment of the tuition or fees, whichever is less. Reimbursement
6is available only for tuition and fees that are part of a curriculum that is relevant to
7a degree in a particular course of study at the institution, center or school college.
AB220, s. 2 8Section 2. 45.25 (3) (b) 4. of the statutes is amended to read:
AB220,2,119 45.25 (3) (b) 4. Contain the signatures of both the applicant and a
10representative of the institution, center or school college certifying that the applicant
11has satisfactorily completed the semester.
AB220, s. 3 12Section 3. Initial applicability.
AB220,2,14 13(1) This act first applies to applications for reimbursement of tuition and fees
14received by the department of veterans affairs on the effective date of this subsection.
