AB221,1,3 1An Act to amend 59.997 (7) of the statutes; relating to: adjustment of the date
2of the 1996 spring primary and election and presidential preference primary
3and certain other dates for election procedures.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill changes the date of the 1996 spring primary from the 3rd Tuesday in
February to the first Tuesday in February, and the date of the 1996 spring election
and presidential preference primary from the first Tuesday in April to the 3rd
Tuesday in March. The bill also changes certain other related dates for the
performance of acts related to the 1996 spring primary and election or established
to coordinate with the dates of the 1996 spring primary and election.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB221, s. 1 4Section 1. 59.997 (7) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB221,2,85 59.997 (7) When the publication of the said consolidation agreement in each of
6the said counties is completed, of which the certificate to the judge of the circuit court
7of the said counties from the owner-editor or manager of each newspaper publishing
8the same shall be proof, the judge or judges of the circuit courts of the said counties
9shall, by order entered of record in each of such counties, require the several county
10clerks of the counties included in the consolidation agreement to submit such

1question to a vote of the qualified electors of such counties at the next election to be
2held on the first Tuesday in April, or the next regular election, or at a special election
3to be held on the day fixed in said order, which day shall be the same in each of the
4counties proposing to consolidate. A copy of said order shall be filed with the county
5clerk of each of such counties. If such question is submitted at a special election, it
6shall be held not less than thirty days nor more than sixty days from the completion
7of the consolidation agreement, but not within sixty days of any April spring or
8general election.
