1An Act to amend 174.02 (2) (a) and (b) of the statutes;
relating to: injury caused
2by a dog and providing a penalty.

Under current law, if a dog injures a person, domestic animal, property, deer or
game bird, the owner of the dog may be required to pay a civil forfeiture. The
forfeiture is a minimum of $50 and a maximum of $100, except that if the owner knew
that the dog had previously caused such injury, the forfeiture is a minimum of $100
and a maximum of $500.
This bill increases the maximum forfeiture for a dog causing injury to $500 if
the owner did not know that the dog had previously caused injury. The bill increases
the minimum forfeiture to $200 and the maximum forfeiture to $1,000 if the owner
knew that the dog had previously caused injury.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

3domestic animal, property, deer, game birds or the nests or eggs of game birds.

5(1) This act first applies to injury caused by a dog on the effective date of this
6subsection.
