1An Act to amend 26.14 (5) of the statutes;
relating to: setting fires and
2providing a penalty.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a person who is convicted of setting a fire and failing to
totally extinguish the fire is subject to a penalty of a fine of not more than $500 or
imprisonment of not more than 30 days or both. This bill changes the penalty to be
a forfeiture of not more than $100.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

(5) Any person who sets a fire or assists in the setting of a fire, including
5a back fire, on any lands in this state and fails to totally extinguish such fire before
6leaving it shall
be fined forfeit not more than
$500 or imprisoned not more than 30
7days or both $100.
