1An Act relating to: extensions of juvenile dispositional orders.

Under current law, subject to certain exceptions, a dispositional order of a court
assigned to exercise jurisdiction under the children's code (juvenile court) terminates
at the end of one year. Currently, a dispositional order may be extended for an
additional period of up to one year, except that the dispositional order of a child who
is placed in a secured correctional facility or on aftercare may not be extended if the
child is 18 years of age or over when the original dispositional order expires. Effective
January 1, 1996, the age of adult criminal jurisdiction is lowered to 17 years of age,
so that, among other things, a dispositional order of a child who is placed in a secured
correctional facility or on aftercare may not be extended if the child is 17 years of age
or over when the original dispositional order expires. This bill provides that,
notwithstanding the new age of majority, a juvenile court may extend the
dispositional order of a child who is subject to a dispositional order on December 31,
1995, as permitted under current law, that is, even if the child is 17 years of age when
the original dispositional order terminates.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

448.355 (4) (a) of the statutes, as affected by
1995 Wisconsin Act 27, a court assigned
5to exercise jurisdiction under chapter 48 of the statutes may extend the dispositional
1order of a child who is subject to a dispositional order on December 31, 1995, as
2permitted under section 48.355 (4) (a), 1993 stats.

This act takes effect on January 1, 1996, or on the day after publication,
