This bill provides that any motor vehicle that is being used by a law
enforcement officer or motor vehicle inspector to enforce any state or local traffic law
must be displaying Wisconsin registration plates. This requirement does not apply
if the vehicle is being used in drug-related law enforcement activities, an undercover
investigation and operation, or in an emergency situation.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB795, s. 1 4Section 1. 349.02 (3) of the statutes is created to read:
AB795,1,105 349.02 (3) Notwithstanding sub. (1), a police officer, sheriff, deputy sheriff,
6traffic officer or motor vehicle inspector may not use a motor vehicle to enforce any
7of the state traffic laws or any local ordinance enacted under this chapter unless the
8vehicle is displaying Wisconsin registration plates. This subsection does not apply
9if the vehicle is being used in drug-related law enforcement activities, an undercover
10investigation and operation, or in a case made necessary by an emergency situation.
