AB825,1,2 1An Act to create 144.42 (5) (i) of the statutes; relating to: exempting farm
2trucks from the motor vehicle emission inspection and maintenance program.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the department of transportation administers a motor
vehicle emission inspection and maintenance program in counties in which the air
quality does not meet certain federally mandated standards or in counties that
request participation in the program. Certain nonexempt vehicles are required to
be inspected for vehicle emissions and to comply with applicable emission limitations
adopted by the department of natural resources (DNR). Exempt vehicles include
motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating exceeding 14,000 pounds. There
is no fee for the vehicle emission inspection.
This bill adds farm trucks to the list of exempt vehicles, thereby exempting farm
trucks from the requirements to be inspected for vehicle emissions and to comply
with applicable limitations adopted by DNR.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
