1995 - 1996 LEGISLATURE
February 5, 1996 - Introduced by Representatives Gard and Seratti, cosponsored
by Senator Drzewiecki. Referred to Committee on Highways and
Transportation.
AB848,1,4 1An Act to amend 348.27 (9) (a); and to repeal and recreate 348.27 (9) (title)
2of the statutes; relating to: annual or consecutive month permits for vehicles
3or combinations of vehicles transporting loads near the Wisconsin-Michigan
4border.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the department of transportation may issue an annual or
consecutive month permit for an oversize or overweight vehicle or combination of
vehicles transporting loads of wood, paper products, pole length and pulpwood
within 11 miles of the Wisconsin-Michigan border.
This bill allows the movement of an oversize or overweight vehicle or
combination of vehicles under such a permit regardless of the type of load being
transported, thereby removing the limitation that such permits only authorize the
transportation of loads of wood, paper products, pole length and pulpwood.
Because this bill concerns an exception to the vehicle weight limits specified in
ch. 348, stats., the department of transportation, as required by law, will prepare a
detailed report to be printed as an appendix to this bill.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB848, s. 1 5Section 1. 348.27 (9) (title) of the statutes is repealed and recreated to read:
AB848,1,76 348.27 (9) (title) Transportation of loads near the Michigan-Wisconsin state

6Michigan-Wisconsin state line, provided that if the roads desired to be used by the

9route approval by the officer in charge of maintenance of the other highway.
