AJR1,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Cletus Vanderperren.
AJR1,1,32 Whereas, Cletus Vanderperren was born on March 4, 1912, in the town of
3Pittsfield and died on September 28, 1994, in Green Bay; and
AJR1,1,64 Whereas, he served on the Pittsfield Town Board for 30 years and was its
5chairperson for most of that time, and he served for 16 years on the Brown County
6Board; and
AJR1,1,97 Whereas, he was first elected to the assembly in 1958 and served in that body
8for 34 years, a tenure that coincided with that of 8 governors and was the longest in
9the history of the assembly; and
AJR1,1,1210 Whereas, his public service won him dozens of honors, and a residence hall at
11the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and a street in Ashwaubenon were named
12for him; and
AJR1,1,1513 Whereas, he was instrumental in the creation of Heritage Hill State Park, the
14University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College;

1Whereas, he is best known for the effect that, as the long-time chairperson of
2the assembly highways committee, he had on the state transportation system,
3making it safer, more convenient, more conducive to economic growth and more
4attractive to tourists; and
AJR1,2,95 Whereas, the combination of his political instincts, his devotion to his district,
6his common sense, his affability, his genuine affection for others, his hard work and
7his integrity made him a highly respected and effective legislator, as evidenced by
8the fact that during the 1989-90 session he led all of the members of the assembly
9in getting bills enacted; and
AJR1,2,1110 Whereas, his devotion to his duty and to public service caused him to persevere
11despite a number of serious health problems; and
AJR1,2,1312 Whereas, Cletus Vanderperren was an exemplary legislator and an exemplary
13human being; now, therefore be it
AJR1,2,18 14Resolved by the assembly, the Senate concurring, That the members of
15the legislature of the sate of Wisconsin express their appreciation for and amazement
16at Cletus Vanderperren's remarkable record of public service, express their deep
17sorrow at his death and extend their condolences to his family, his friends and the
18thousands of constituents that he served so well; and, be it further
AJR1,2,21 19Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
20resolution to Cletus Vanderperren's wife, Cora, and to his children; Carlene
21Kurowski, Gloria Vanderperren and Carol Woodke.
