AJR40,1,32 Whereas, May is recognized throughout the United States as "Older Americans
3Month"; and
AJR40,1,54 Whereas, the senior citizens of this state uphold the lessons of the past and
5impart principles for the future; and
AJR40,1,86 Whereas, Governor Tommy Thompson acknowledged and sponsored the
7Governor's Conference on Aging on March 7, 1995, for over 500 attendees from
8throughout the state; and
AJR40,1,119 Whereas, this conference was held to discuss important topics affecting seniors
10as well as to formulate and adopt proposals that were presented to the National
11Conference; and
AJR40,1,1412 Whereas, the Governor's Conference on Aging honored and supported senior
13citizens by creating an atmosphere in which health, long-term care, housing,
14transportation, personal safety and economic security issues were addressed; and
AJR40,1,1615 Whereas, during the Wisconsin Conference, the vital role that older persons
16play as volunteers within their communities was recognized; and

1Whereas, over 2,000 delegates from throughout the country attended the 4th
2White House Conference on Aging from May 2 to 5, 1995, in Washington, D.C., the
3theme of which was "American Now and Into the 21st Century; Generations Aging
4Together with Independence, Opportunity and Dignity"; and
AJR40,2,75 Whereas, the Wisconsin delegates to this conference have been selected to
6attend because of their understanding of senior citizen issues and were asked for
7practical advice on ways to make government more effective; and
AJR40,2,118 Whereas, the White House Conference on Aging addressed issues such as
9assuring comprehensive health care, promoting economic security, maximizing
10housing and support service options and improving the quality of life; now, therefore,
11be it
AJR40,2,16 12Resolved by the assembly, the Senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
13legislature honors our delegates to the White House Conference on Aging and the
14senior citizens of this state by recognizing the month of May 1995 as "Older
15Americans Month" and thanks them for their contributions and the heritage they
16give to our state.
