AJR50,1,42 Whereas, the original statue Forward was created for the Wisconsin building
3at the Columbian Exhibition in Chicago in 1893 by artist-in-residence Jean Pond
4Miner, a 28-year-old Wisconsin woman originally from Menasha; and
AJR50,1,65 Whereas, the women of Wisconsin raised $8,000 to have a copper replica made
6of Forward and brought to the Capitol as a gift to the state; and
AJR50,1,97 Whereas, the copper replica of Forward has stood on its pedestal in its
8prominent location at the entrance to the north wing of the Capitol for 100 years, a
9longer time than the present Capitol has existed; and
AJR50,1,1110 Whereas, Forward, whose name is the state motto, is an important symbol not
11only to women but also to all citizens of the state of Wisconsin; and
AJR50,1,1312 Whereas, it has been determined that eventually the copper replica must be
13taken indoors to preserve it; now, therefore, be it
AJR50,2,2 14Resolved by the assembly, the Senate concurring, That the members of the
15Wisconsin legislature respectfully request that the state building commission

1authorize the department of administration to do whatever is necessary to maintain
2a full-size replica of Forward on its pedestal at the north entrance to the Capitol.
