Whereas, Michael R. Baribeau was born on September 1, 1957, in the city of
3Rice Lake and died on December 19, 1995; and

Whereas, he attended St. Joseph Grade School, graduated from Rice Lake High
5School in 1975 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Barron County Campus at
6Rice Lake while working for his father at the family's business, Baribeau Implement
7Company; and

Whereas, in 1977 he became a reserve police officer for the city of Rice Lake; and

Whereas, Mike was the first officer to participate in the "Officer Friendly"
10program and is fondly remembered by many Rice Lake children for his warm,
11generous nature and his ability to communicate with young people; and

Whereas, he served on the Rice Lake police force for 14 years; and

Whereas, he gave his life in the line of duty while helping neighboring Rusk
14County officials as a member of the Barron County Emergency Response Team; and

Whereas, Mike will be remembered for his bright sense of humor, his devotion
16to his family and friends, his dedication to his community and his active membership
17in the Trinity Lutheran Church and Rice Lake Masonic Lodge; and

1Whereas, Mike was an exemplary human being and police officer; now,
2therefore, be it

3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
4legislature of the state of Wisconsin express their appreciation for Michael R.
5Baribeau's record of public service, express their deep sorrow at his death and extend
6their condolences to his family, friends and fellow police officers; and, be it further

7Resolved, That: the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
8resolution to Mike's wife, Cindy; to his children, Katie Lynn and Paul Michael; and
9to his parents, Ray and Rosemary Baribeau.
