2national monument status on the National Native American Vietnam Veterans
3Memorial at "The Highground".
SJR54,1,54 Whereas, the National Native American Vietnam Veterans Memorial was
5dedicated at The Highground on September 16, 1995; and
SJR54,1,86 Whereas, the National Native American Vietnam Veterans Memorial was
7dedicated in honor of the "Forgotten Warriors" across the country who are missing
8in action or who died as a result of their military service in Vietnam; and
SJR54,1,109 Whereas, the names of 241 Native American casualties from all 50 states and
10Canada are listed on granite monuments at this memorial; and
SJR54,1,1211 Whereas, Vietnam veterans come from diverse cross-cultural backgrounds and
12share a commonality of experiences; and
SJR54,1,1413 Whereas, Native American Vietnam veterans see themselves as an
14underserved and unrecognized segment of the veteran population; and
SJR54,2,215 Whereas, the Ho-Chunk Wazijaci Indian Nation has requested state
16sponsorship of that Indian Nation's efforts to have national monument status

1conferred on the National Native American Vietnam Veterans Memorial; now,
2therefore, be it
SJR54,2,7 3Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
4legislature hereby respectfully urges the Congress of the United States and the
5President of the United States to enact legislation to confer national monument
6status on the National Native American Vietnam Veterans Memorial at The
7Highground; and, be it further
SJR54,2,11 8Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
9resolution to all members of the Wisconsin delegation to Congress, the presiding
10officers of the U.S. house of representatives and the U.S. senate and the President
11of the United States.
