SJR59,1,1 Relating to: expressing support for the Republic of China (Taiwan).

SJR59,1,3 Whereas, the Republic of China (Taiwan) has had a special relationship with the people and state of Wisconsin for many years; and

SJR59,1,5 Whereas, the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a paradigm of the success of a market-based economic system and a democratic political system; and

SJR59,1,8 Whereas, in recent weeks, the People's Republic of China has been escalating its threatening rhetoric and propaganda directed at the Republic of China (Taiwan); and

SJR59,1,11 Whereas, the people of Wisconsin are concerned with the security of the citizens and government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and are supportive of its efforts to become a fully democratic nation; and

SJR59,1,16 Whereas, it is the fervent hope and desire of the state of Wisconsin that the People's Republic of China will not interfere with the Republic of China's (Taiwan), continuing pursuit of a democratic political system, recognizing that the Republic of China (Taiwan) has successfully completed its first presidential election; now, therefore, be it

SJR59,2,4 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin encourages the Republic of China (Taiwan) to ensure that their democratic efforts continue and expresses its support for the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at this most difficult time.
