2relating to: the furnishing of social security numbers on applications for
3licenses and identification cards issued by the department of transportation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, any application for an operator's license or identification
card to be issued by the department of transportation must include the applicant's
social security number. This bill provides that only an applicant for a commercial
driver license must, to the extent required under federal law, furnish his or her social
security number. All other applicants are exempt from the requirement of furnishing
their social security number. A commercial driver license is required to operate most
commercial motor vehicles (primarily large trucks and buses).
