2System to study methods of reducing costs.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill directs the board of regents of the University of Wisconsin (UW)
System to study various methods of reducing the costs of the UW System. In
particular, the bill requires the board to compare the advantages and disadvantages
of eliminating one or more UW campuses to the advantages and disadvantages of
systemwide cost reductions. The board must submit its report to the governor and
the legislature by January 1, 1998.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB27, s. 1 3Section 1. Nonstatutory provisions.
AB27,2,54 (1) The board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System shall study
5various methods of reducing the costs of the University of Wisconsin System. In
6particular, the board shall compare the advantages and disadvantages of

1eliminating one or more campuses within the system to the advantages and
2disadvantages of systemwide cost reductions. The board shall submit its report,
3including its recommendations, to the governor, and to the appropriate standing
4committees of the legislature in the manner provided under section 13.172 (3) of the
5statutes, by January 1, 1998.
